pleasantville-3

Pleasantville’s volleyball squad’s rough start to the season continues as they were swept by No. 4 in Class 2A Des Moines Christian Thursday night, while the football team begins their season at home tonight against Lynnville-Sully.

The Trojans’ volleyball team lost in straight sets for the second consecutive match, losing 25-13, 25-14, and 25-18 to last year’s West Central Conference Champions, Des Moines Christian. Olivia Anthony led the way for Pleasantville with three blocks. The Trojans had moments where they played well, but ultimately struggled to get the ball to the setter consistently. The loss drops Pleasantville to 0-2 on the season. The Trojans will be back in action Tuesday night as they travel to Madrid.

Pleasantville kicks off the 2021 football season tonight against the Hawks of Lynnville Sully. The Trojans have multiple new faces in the starting lineup with Parker Sheets taking over under center and Jake De Joode and Jacob Hiemstra lining up behind him.

The Trojans have just 36 players on the varsity roster this season which could become a factor in Friday’s game with the heat and humidity expected to hang throughout the evening. With a smaller team and steamy weather conditions, Head Coach Mack Jorth made sure his team knew how to prepare for conditions

“It started all week harping on them about taking care of themselves all week long, it doesn’t just start Friday Night at 7 pm it’s what you do with yourself all week. So we harped on the hydration and sleep and eating properly, so hopefully they heed that advice. And when it comes to game time, we’ll just have the normal heat mitigation plans in place with a lot of cold towels and those kinds of things and lots of water breaks, but we will count on a lot of guys to play.”

Listen to Pleasantville’s home opener on the KNIA3 stream with pregame coverage starting at 6:30 pm followed by kickoff at 7 pm.
