It was a hard fought battle between the Trojans and the Hawks on the gridiron, but the Trojans of Pleasantville were able to land the final blow as they defeated Lynnville-Sully 13-7.
Trevor Daggett was the story early in this game as he lived in the Lynnville-Sully backfield most of the first half, recording three tackles for loss. Dillon Ammons came into the game as the backup running back, but after an early injury to starter Jake De Joode, Ammons shined as the focal point of the offense. Ammons hauled in a 50-yard reception from quarterback Parker Sheets to set up the Trojans up at the eight yard line, where Sheets found Caleb Cook for the first touchdown of the year. Ammons wasn’t done contributing as he scored from four yards out in the third quarter, in what proved to be more than enough for the Trojans. The Hawks would score with under three minutes to play, but the Trojans held on for the victory. While he was second on the depth chart entering the game, Head Coach Mack Jorth knew what Ammons was capable of.
“We knew Dillon would be a heck of a player this year. He had a phenomenal offseason and he’s just a hard working guy. I knew he would be a very good player for us, now obviously we didn’t realize he would have to contribute that much for us after De Joode went down early. Which was really unfortunate for him and our team, but when that happens you’ve got to have guys step up and Ammons did a great job of doing that.”
The win makes Pleasantville 1-0 ahead of next week’s tough matchup with Interstate-35 in Truro.
