Several sports teams at Central were in action over the weekend.

The volleyball team hosted Day 2 of the Central-Grinnell Invitational, and went 0-2 on the day. The Dutch dropped a 3-2 contest to Wisconsin-Platteville, and lost to Wisconsin-Stout 3-1.

The soccer teams played in home games Saturday. The women defeated Ripon 8-0 while the men defeated Grinnell 4-3.

Women’s Tennis edged Coe 5-4, and the women’s triathlon team finished sixth in their regional qualifier.

Entering the match for the first time in the 65th minute, freshman midfielder Kirsten Small struck for a goal in the 79th minute to give the Central College women’s soccer team a 1-0 win at Cornell College Sunday afternoon. The Dutch (2-1-0) defeated the Rams (1-2-0) for the eighth consecutive time. The Rams are the preseason favorites in the Midwest Conference.
Small came on as a second-half substitute and made her first collegiate goal count in a big way. The assist came from midfielder Paige Cahill.

Goalkeeper Jasmyn Bush secured a clean sheet while making two saves. The starting back line of Sydney Canney, Maddi Fisher, Bridget Lynch and Alyssa Knuth played all 90 minutes in front of Bush.

Central hosts the University of Northwestern – St. Paul (Minn.) Thursday at 5 p.m.

The golf teams were also in action Sunday, finishing up their respective tournaments. The men placed 10th at Transylvania, while the women finished 2nd at Luther
