The Trojans got out to a hot start against Central Decatur, but it wasn’t enough as the Cardinals stormed back to defeat Pleasantville 38-28.
Pleasantville forced three first quarter turnovers to jump out to a big 28-6 lead early over Central Decatur. After taking the big lead, the Trojan offense stalled for the rest of the night. The Cardinals took full advantage of the Pleasantville offensive struggles to add a score before half to trail 28-14. Central Decatur used that momentum to return the second half opening kickoff for a touchdown, and from there it was all Cardinals. Trojans Head Coach Mack Jorth said that this loss stung for the whole team.
“It was a pretty heartbreaking loss, from that respect. Getting out and playing so well early and getting out to a big lead and then just not being able to sustain and seal the deal really hurt. It was also a pretty tough one to stomach seeing those guys battle their tails off and just couldn’t quite make enough plays to win the game. That’s tough to see, because the guys are pretty broken up about and you feel for them because they gave everything they had on the field just to come up short.”
Pleasantville will return home next week for the homecoming game against the Eagles of Pella Christian, a game that can be heard live on 92.1 KRLS.
