A top ten matchup of Class 1A District 6 foes went the way of #6 Sigourney-Keota over #4 Pella Christian 20-13, as heard on KRLS2 Friday.
The Eagles opening series was trending in the right direction before a fumble lost deep in Cobras territory stalled that effort and the offense for the majority of the 1st half.
After trading a few punts, Sigourney-Keota got its offense rolling, and scored all three of their touchdowns in the contest on drives of 10 plays or more and taking at least five minutes off of the game clock in each. While the Eagles scored twice in quick fashion, the inability to get off the field against the run-heavy Cobras was too much to overcome, according to Head Coach Rich Kacmarynski.
Isaac Kacmarynski threw for a touchdown and ran for a score, and Bennett Spronk caught that TD pass and also nabbed an interception before the half. Sigourney-Keota finished with 297 yards on 60 carries, with no passing yards on three attempts.
The Eagles fall to 4-1 overall and 1-1 in District 6, and next head to Pleasantville.
