
Pella Christian welcomed Albia, Grand View Christian, and Knoxville to Eagle Lane Saturday for a quad tournament. Knoxville had a fantastic day at the tournament going 5-0 and winning the championship. Pella Christian went 3-2 on the day finishing as the tournament’s runner-up. Albia finished the tournament 1-3, while Grand View Christian finished the day 0-4.
Knoxville started the day knocking off Albia in two sets 21-14 and 21-18. The Panthers then defeated Grand View Christian in three sets 21-17, 17-21, and 15-10. Knoxville remained unbeaten in pool play, defeating Pella Christian in two sets 21-11 and 21-15. The Panthers survived the Grand View Christian upset bid in the opening round of bracket play, winning in three sets with scores of 20-25, 25-9, and 18-16.
Pella Christian started off strong in pool play, taking care of Grand View Christian in two sets 21-7 and 21-14. The Eagles then defeated Albia in three sets 21-13, 18-21, and 15-6. Knoxville then knocked off the Eagles in two sets 11-21 and 15-21. In Bracket play, Pella Christian took down Albia for the second time on the day, this time in two sets 25-14 and 25-13.
The Championship match between Knoxville and Pella Christian began with a thrilling 25-22 Panthers set win. The Eagles would bounce back to dominate the second set 25-9. In the winner take all set, the two teams would go down to the wire, but Knoxville ultimately prevailed 15-12.
Brittany Bacorn was the leading offensive force for the Panthers with 46 assists and 38 kills. Emma Dunkin tallied 64 digs to pace the Knoxville defense and Kira Deaver added 7 aces in the tournament.
Natalie Harrill posted 57 digs, 12 aces, and eight assists and Chloe Husiman tallied 109 assists and 21 digs for the Eagles on the day. Emma Eekhoff tallied seven aces on the day and, Sarah Gritters, Trinity Vos and Cara Veenstra lead the offense, as Gritters had 45 kills, Vos had 31 kills, and Veenstra had 25 kills in the tournament.
Knoxville improves to 17-8 on the season and has the week off before their next game on Tuesday, October 5th at Centerville. Pella Christian’s record moved to 8-12 following the tournament and will look for win number nine Tuesday at Newton.
