Five Central College athletes were cited by the American Rivers Conference for their performances last week.
Quarterback Blaine Hawkins was named the league offensive player of the week for the seventh time. Hawkins was on the field for less than eight minutes of Central’s 84-16 runaway victory at Simpson College Saturday yet set school records for most passing yards (424) and most touchdown passes (7), giving him a record 100 passing touchdowns for his career. He completed 22 of 24 passes before taking a seat on the bench for the second half.
Meanwhile kicker Logan Sunvold was the conference special teams player of the week, setting a school record with 12 extra-point conversions in 12 tries. He also averaged 59.1 yards on 13 kickoffs, recording two touchbacks.
The Dutch are 4-0 overall and ranked No. 13 in the NCAA Division III.
Goalkeeper Jasmyn Bush was tabbed as the women’s soccer defensive player of the week. She recorded 22 saves in two games last week, posting a shutout in a 2-0 win at Luther College in the league season opener Saturday. Central is 6-2-1 overall.
Caleb Silver is the conference men’s cross country runner of the week. He was Central’s top performer at the Roy Griak Invitational, hosted by the University of Minnesota last Friday at St. Paul. Silver was 35th in a strong 374-runner field, finishing the challenging 8,000-meter course in 26:26.2. Central was 10th in a 27-team field.
Caroline McMartin was tabbed as the conference women’s cross country runner of the week. Also competing at the Roy Griak Invitational, she was 37th of 327 runners, finishing the 6,000-meter course in 23:42.6 as Central was 12th of 29 teams.
