A project by the Iowa DOT is rerouting traffic in southern Marion County. Replacement of concrete culverts, grading and installation of erosion control on Iowa 5 about one mile south of Lovilia and just south of Monroe County Highway T19 will require closing the highway to traffic at the project area. Southbound traffic on Highway 5 will be detoured on Highway G 71 through Bussey.
Through traffic on Iowa 5 south beyond Lovilia will be detoured onto Iowa 14 south to Chariton and east on US 34 to Albia. Local traffic will have access to Iowa 5 during the planned closure, except near the project area just south of T19. It is anticipated the detour will be in place for 20 days, weather permitting.
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones.
