Luther hands Central women first league tennis loss
The Luther College women’s tennis team defeated Central College 8-1 Friday night, taking the lead in the American Rivers Conference title race. Central (8-5, 6-1 conference) and Luther (7-2, 6-0 conference) entered the match as the last two remaining unbeaten programs in league matches.

Alyssa Lewton was victorious at No. 2 singles for Central’s only point. She won it with a score of 6-4, 1-6, 10-7.

Central plays its final dual match of the season at home today against Wartburg College at 9:30 a.m.

Central falters after first volleyball set
A dominant effort in the first set by the Central College volleyball team ran out of steam in a 15-25, 25-14, 25-20, 25-16 loss to Loras College Friday night. Central (10-8, 1-2 American Rivers Conference) hit .375 in the first set against the Duhawks (14-3, 3-1 conference), notching 11 kills and just two errors on 24 attempts. Central could not maintain the momentum of that 25-15 win and lost the next three sets.

Krissa Larson paced the Dutch offense with 17 kills, her third time this season going over 15 kills. She had a .400 hitting percentage (17-3-35). Amanda Smith had 20 assists and Landry Luhring had 10 digs. Hallie Uhligcontributed on six blocks.

Central hosts the University of Dubuque in another American Rivers Conference match today at 1 p.m.
