Pleasantville’s football squad got back in the win column with a resounding 45-8 victory over Van Buren, while Pleasantville’s volleyball squad will have their final tournament of the season as they travel west to Martensdale-St. Mary’s.
The Trojans’ football squad broke their three-game losing streak by making a statement against the Warriors. Jacob Hiemstra and Caleb Cook combined to score four of Pleasantville’s six touchdowns on the night. Both players had two scores each. Coach Mack Jorth tells KNIA Sports that he was very proud of his team’s performance Friday night.
“I was just very pleased with our guys, very happy for them. They’ve had it tough. It’s been a long road to haul here lately, and these guys haven’t given up and had to cash in their chips and have really just come in to work every day. They kept believing in themselves and believing in each other and working hard so having some good things happen like that at the end of an investment is really good to see.”
Pleasantville now goes to 3-4 on the year and 2-3 in district play. The Trojans will play for a chance at a playoff spot next week as they close out the regular season at Cardinal of Eldon.
The Trojans’ volleyball squad will come into the tournament with a 14-12 record, including a 3-5 record in West Central Conference play. Pleasantville is coming off a heartbreaking loss on Senior Night Thursday to Woodward-Granger three sets to two. The Trojans will compete against two familiar foes in the host and Southeast Warren, who won the Pleasantville Tournament last Saturday. Pleasantville will also compete with Montezuma and West Central Conference foes Earlham and Van Meter.
The Trojans’ first match of the tournament at Martensdale-St. Mary’s will be against Southeast Warren. The tournament will begin at 9:00 AM.
