The Pella Christian football team used a strong, steady offensive performance to push past Mediapolis 42-21 in the opening round of the postseason, as heard live on the KRLS2 stream Friday night.
An opening drive of 11 plays and 80 yards set the tone for the Eagles, on a night when they had four drives of at least nine snaps. Recovering a fumble on a punt return set up another short score to make it 14-0.
The Bulldogs had a few tricks of their own, and a halfback pass went 63 yards in the 2nd quarter. A 27-14 halftime lead turned into just a six point advantage when Mediapolis returner Kadin Salek hit a 90 yard kickoff return to open the 3rd quarter. But an Eagles’ answer capped with a 5th Isaac Kacmarynski touchdown gave P.C. enough cushion to control the 2nd half. Kacmarynski threw for two and rushed for three, and Cooper Spronk ended up icing the game following an interception by Kacmarynski.
Pella Christian improves to 8-1 overall and is on the road for their Round of 16 postseason game next week.
