This week is National Lead Paint Poison Prevention Week, aiming to bring together individuals, organizations, industry, and state, tribal, and local governments to increase lead poisoning prevention awareness in an effort to reduce childhood exposure to lead. Any homes built before 1978, the year a federal law was passed to prevent lead based paint, can have their paint tested as elevated levels of lead can harm a child’s central nervous system and are associated with reduced IQ, behavioral problems and learning disabilities.
