The Norwalk football team is back in the playoffs after a 6-3 regular season. Tonight, the Warriors travel to #8 Webster City for a first round matchup. The Warriors enter this game on a two-game skid, and earned a wild-card spot in this year’s playoffs. Norwalk will roll with a new starting quarterback tonight, as Ky Pearson takes over for the injured Landon Hochstein, who sustained a wrist injury last week. Head Coach Paul Patterson says his team will be playing a team with a strong identity, and they’ll need to be prepared to stop the run.
“They’re a Bob Howard-coached team. And if you know Bob Howard, you know single wing is in his background, and that’s exactly what we’re going to get. You don’t know who’s going to get the football, you can’t read the guards the whole time, because they’ll false key you. If you have not seen single wing football, I recommend that you Google it before you show up Friday night, that way you’ll have a little bit better understanding. It’s a heavy dose of run, it’s all about them controlling the clock, putting drives together, putting points on the board. Defensively, they’ll try to pressure us, play man-to-man, put Ky in a tough spot. We need to make sure, just like we talk all the time, take care of the football, get first downs, put points on the board, and our playmakers need to make plays.”
The Lynx were champions of District 1 with a 5-0 district mark. They put together a 7-2 regular season, and have won six straight. This is the second all-time meeting between the programs, as Webster City won a playoff game 33-14 in 2016. Tonight’s game will air on KNIA3 with Jon Mohwinkle and Dawson Livingston calling the action. Pregame coverage begins at 6:30, with the opening kickoff from Webster City High School at 7:00.
