The Simpson College fall athletics teams were in action over the weekend, including competing in the American Rivers Conference postseason tournaments and meets.
The Storm men’s cross country team had two top-7 finishes and ended in third place in the American Rivers Conference Championships, with a 6th place finish from Spencer Moon and a 7th place finish from Harry Dudley. The Storm women got a 20th place finish from Cat Lucht as they finished in 4th place. Simpson will travel to Rock Island, Ill. to compete at the NCAA Midwest Regional on Nov. 13.
The Storm women’s soccer team defeated Central in the quarterfinals of the American Rivers Conference tournament in overtime. The Storm earned a goal off of a Maddie Hays penalty conversion in the 82nd minute to tie the score, then did the same in the overtime period to seal the win. The victory was the Storm’s first postseason win since defeating Central 2-0 in the first round of the Iowa Conference Tournament in 2011. The Storm travel to Wartburg in the semifinals tomorrow evening.
The Storm volleyball team went 1-2 at the Augustana Pumpkin Bash over the weekend. Simpson fell to Augustana 3-0, and Benedictine 3-0, but defeated Dominican 3-1. Jessica Jacobs was named to the All-Tournament Team at the conclusion of the weekend. Simpson is set to compete in the A-R-C Tournament for the first time since the 2013 season this evening.
