The Pella Community School District election features two contested races and a community vote on the bond issue.
This year’s Pella School Board candidates (everyone living in the district’s borders can vote in all three races, regardless of who their representative is):
At-Large:
Elisa Klahsen (Incumbent)
Kevin Jones
District 1 – Held by Annette Smith (not running)
Jeana Clark
Jesse Peterson
District 2
Joan Corbin (Incumbent)
Superintendent Greg Ebeling says those living in the Pella City Limits can vote for both the City Council candidates specific to their ward and for all Pella School District candidates and the bond issue; anyone else is voting for school issues only as long as they live in the district borders. Otley area voters can head to Otley Reformed Church and those in Leighton will go to Leighton Christian Reformed Church. Find specific polling locations here.
Voters will also have the opportunity to approve $40 million to make significant facility improvements to the district, which includes an Early Childhood Center, a classroom expansion and connection between Pella Middle School and Jefferson Intermediate School, heating and cooling upgrades to Pella High School, new bleachers, restrooms, and a press box at the football stadium, and new tennis courts at Caldwell Park to accommodate the straightening of University Street. A “yes” vote from 60% of Pella School District voters extends the current property tax debt levy without an increase on the current rate.
