The Indianola City Council approved a series of ordinance changes at their meeting Monday on a range of topics, all due to state laws passed by the Iowa Legislature. City Manager Ryan Waller tells KNIA News these ordinance changes were not a choice, as the city has to comply with state law.

“We can make things more restrictive, we always can go above and beyond what the state is establishing, but we can’t go less than. As part of the legislative session, there were a number of codes that were passed into law that impacts local governments. So our city clerk works with a codifying company that lets us know these types of updates because there are quite a few that come through each legislative session, and let us know what has to happen in order to mirror state code.”

Waller also said there were a total of eight items approved by council, who waived the second and third readings of the ordinances
