The Knoxville Airport Commission will host a public hearing on a proposed agreement between the Knoxville Airport and the Des Moines Skydivers Club this evening. Knoxville Airport Manager Dan Van Donselaar tells KNIA/KRLS News this is a proposal to move the club’s operations to Knoxville, and it’s a chance to share interests or concerns.

“For the most part, it’s a chance for the tenants and the general public to address any concerns or anything that they would have, concerns or positives, to talk or educate themselves on what might go on in the future. Nothing is set in stone yet, we’re working toward it.”

Airport board Member Steve Mitchell also tells KNIA/KRLS News the skydiving club presence in Knoxville would be an economic boost to the community.

The Des Moines Skydivers Club is currently based in Winterset, and offers tandem skydiving to the general public. Van Donselaar says operations in Knoxville could begin in late summer or fall 2022 if the agreement passes. The meeting begins at 6:00 p.m. at the Knoxville Airport terminal.
