The theme for the No. 2 in Class 4A Indianola girls basketball program over the offseason was capitalizing on team goals that have been set over the past four years, and working to get to where the program wants to be, competing for a state title. Head coach Jeff Janssen tells KNIA Sports when he started four years ago, they were coming off of multiple trips to Wells Fargo Arena and a reset of the program with a lot of young talent, and the time is now to take advantage of all the varsity minutes his team is returning.
“Winning the state championship is our goal. That hasn’t always been a realistic conversation in our locker room and huddles the last three years. That conversation is changing. In our postseason meetings, we are talking about next year winning a state championship if we prepare the way we need to prepare and having the right mindset. If we make every game a big game next year, we can definitely go a long way.”
The Indians went 18-5 last season, and lost only one senior to graduation.
