The first basketball varsity doubleheaders and wrestling meets have the winter season kicking off in earnest this week.

On Tuesday, the boys and girls from the Tulip City basketball teams open the full regular season on the road, as Pella travels to North Polk and Pella Christian heads to Albia.

The Pella wrestling team — which features both Dutch and Eagles athletes, opens the season on the road in a triangular Thursday with Des Moines Hoover and Urbandale and in a dual tournament Saturday at Williamsburg.
