The Norwalk basketball teams will host Pella Christian tonight in the first night of Little Hawkeye Conference play. In the girls game, it’ll be a battle between 1-1 teams both looking to start league play on the right foot. Head Coach Jill Martin expects to see a different style of play than what her team has faced this season.
“We’re going to alternate now between conference and non-conference. That’s why we play good teams like Ballard, to get ready, there’s no nights off. We’ll shift, probably see a little zone for the first time this year. We’re excited for conference to start, especially at home.”
Norwalk is coming off a loss to Ballard, while the Eagles took care of Albia Tuesday night.
On the boys side, the Warriors look for a bounce back after a humbling loss to Ballard Tuesday night as they face a 1-0 Pella Christian squad. Head Coach Aaron Pelzer says the Eagles bring great size and talent to the table.
“They’re extremely good, big and physical. They’ll be starting 6’5”, 6’5”, 6’6”, 6’9” and their other player is a returning first team all-conference point guard. We’ll have to be really good, compete hard and compete together. We’ve been preaching all year that it’s a marathon, not a sprint. Our marathon is off to a rocky start, we’re caught behind some runners, but we’ll be fine in the end.”
Tonight’s doubleheader will air on 92.1 KRLS with Jon Mohwinkle and Wynne Veenstra on the call. Pregame coverage begins at 5:45 p.m., with the opening tipoff at 6:15 inside the Norwalk High School gymnasium.
