After struggling to begin the season, PCM’s basketball squads came away with their first doubleheader sweep of the year as both teams knocked off Heart of Iowa Conference foe Saydel.

The Mustangs’ girls earned their first win of the season, dominating the Eagles, 55-28. Behind stellar three-point shooting and outstanding defense, PCM never trailed in a wire-to-wire victory, knocking down nine three-pointers. The Steenhoek sisters combined to put up 31 points as Addison led the team in scoring with 13. Paige knocked in 11 while Sophie had seven. A key contributor off the bench for the Mustangs was Evelyn Burkett, who had 11, including three three-pointers. With the win, PCM goes to 1-5 on the season and 1-1 in Heart of Iowa Conference play.

The Mustangs’ boys jumped on the Eagles early and often, knocking off Saydel, 58-38. PCM held Saydel’s leading scorer, Camden Lo, to a measly ten points. Durant Van Dyke led the way for the Mustangs, knocking in 16 points and blocked three shots. Carson Vandelune continued to showcase his shooting, knocking in 15 points with three three-pointers. The highlight of the night came in the second quarter between the two Mustang stars.

PCM goes to 2-3 on the season and 1-1 in Heart of Iowa Conference play. Both teams will be back in action Friday night for their first road conference doubleheader of the season, which will be at Greene County.
