With the victory over Saydel Tuesday night, PCM Head Girls Basketball Coach Sami Allison-Rodriguez got her first win as a high school head coach.

After the Mustangs struggled in the first five games of the season against powerhouses like Nevada, Chariton, and Montezuma, they finally broke through and won their first game of the 2021-22 season. Allison-Rodriguez, who has Division I College coaching experience, says that it felt good to finally break through and come away with a much-needed win.

“I was really proud. I think defensively we’ve been doing what we’re asking for a couple games. But offensively, we were struggling. We finally had some stretches of good movement on offense, we were crashing the boards. Our big kids were trying to make some moves. So I am happy on the offense end as well as the defensive end.”

The win also was the first Heart of Iowa Conference victory for PCM since they beat South Hamilton in February 2021. The Mustangs will be back in action Friday night for their first road Heart of Iowa Conference doubleheader of the season at Greene County.
