Those with travel plans this weekend — especially north of the area, will want to use caution as the first major winter storm of the season impacts the state.

Moderate to heavy snow remains in the forecast in Iowa mainly north of Highway 20 and in southern Minnesota; but mixed precipitation closer to home and in central Iowa could cause travel difficulty as well overnight Friday through Saturday morning. No widespread impacts are expectedly locally, but all drivers should be prepared for potentially slick conditions for the first time since February in isolated areas.

A warming trend returns Sunday with well above average temperatures expected, according to the National Weather Service, and potentially record breaking warmth possible by the middle of next week.
