pleasantville-3

Pleasantville’s basketball squads were swept by Van Meter Friday night in a doubleheader that was broadcast on the KRLS3 stream at kniakrls.com, while the Trojans’ wrestling squad will go compete at the Tri-County Invitational today.

The Trojans’ girls’ basketball squad were outscored by the Bulldogs in the second half by 19, which resulted in a 57-37 defeat. Pleasantville went back and forth with Van Meter in the first half, trailing by just one at the break. Unfortunately, the Trojans unraveled because of poor defense and untimely turnovers. Adi Adreon led the team in scoring, knocking in 11 with two three-pointers. Riley Thill was second on the team in scoring with eight points. With the loss Pleasantville drops to 4-3 overall and 1-2 in West Central Conference play. Coach Jeff Cook says that it came down to poor play in the second half, which was the difference in the game.

“They shot really well. We played poorly and threw the ball away unforced a lot, I thought. We just didn’t shoot it well. We’d have balls that look like they were going in and they didn’t.”

The Trojans’ boys’ basketball squad trailed wire-to-wire in the second game and came out on the wrong side of an 85-55 defeat. It was a rough going for Pleasantville offensively, as they struggled to find any rhythm. The lone bright spot for the Trojans was Mason Scheve tying a career-high with 35 points while knocking down seven three-pointers. The second-leading scorer from Pleasantville was Parker Sheets, who had five. With the loss, Pleasantville drops to 2-2 on the season and 1-2 in West Central Conference play.

Both teams will be back in action Tuesday night when they travel to Ogden for another West Central Conference Doubleheader.

The Trojans’ wrestling squad will compete in the Tri-County Invitational in Thornburg today. Pleasantville finished third in their first tournament of the season, which was the Coach Riley Invitational in Nodaway Valley. The Trojans are coming into the tournament with a 4-2 dual record, including edging PCM in their quadrangular at Sigourney Tuesday. Coach Heath DeForest tells KNIA Sports that the toughest opponent he expects to face is Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont.

“Whenever you are in a tournament with Eddyville-Blakesburg, you know that’s probably going to be one of your tough competitions at that tournament.”

The tournament will begin at Tri-County High School at 9:00 AM.
