The Knoxville Basketball Squads split their games with Davis County on Tuesday night with the girls winning 58-46 and the boys falling to the Mustangs 62-58 as heard live on 95.3 KNIA. The girls got off to a fast start, leading 15-6 after one quarter and gradually building a lead by as many as 20 before Davis County began to chip away in the 4th quarter to get it as close as six with just over 2:00 remaining. But back-to-back buckets by Brittany Bacorn got Knoxville back up by double digits and the Panthers defense did the rest. Junior Player Emma Dunkin tells KNIA/KRLS Sports the defense was changed up a bit and it paid off.
Dunkin: “We took away out full court pressure because it was tiring us out too much, so we took away their left side and that turned into turnovers and transition points for us.”
Anna Buttell led the scoring for Knoxville with 13 points, Charlee Heffron had 11 while Dunkin and Bacorn scored ten each. The boys were plagued with Davis County’s far too many offensive rebounds in a 62-58 loss to the Mustangs. The Panthers were down in the 4th quarter 59-45, but made a comeback to get to within three when Gabe Clark got hot with three, three point baskets. However, key turnovers in the last minute kept Knoxville from completing the comeback. Clark led the Panthers with 15 points, all on three point shots and Landen Norris scored 13. The Knoxville girls are 3-3 on the season and 1-2 in the South Central Conference, while the boys drop to 1-3 and also 1-2 in the conference. Both Panthers are at Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont on Friday.
