pleasantville-3

The final West Central Conference doubleheader of the 2021 calendar year for Pleasantville’s basketball squads is tonight as they square off with Des Moines Christian.

The Trojans’ girls are coming off a dominating victory over Ogden, where they nearly doubled up the Bulldogs, 53-28. Pleasantville has won five of their first eight games of the season, including two in conference play. The Trojans have yet to beat Des Moines Christian in the VarsityBound era, with their closest game coming last season, when Pleasantville’s comeback attempt fell just short of their comeback attempt, losing 47-39.

The Trojans’ boys are coming off edging Ogden in their last game Tuesday, winning 68-61 behind a double-double from Andrew Pender. Pleasantville is currently off to a good start, winning three of their first five games. Two of those wins came by single-digits. The last time the Trojans played Des Moines Christian in the regular season, Mason Scheve scored a career-high 35 points in a 78-66 loss. Coach Tom Wilkins says that he will be looking for sophomore Dayson Leerhoff to be more aggressive going up against Lions’ star Adam Witty.

“He’s gotta get a little more aggressive and that is something that we gotta talk to him about in practice. He kinda defers to other guys and he doesn’t really mess it up in there.”

The doubleheader gets underway at Pleasantville High School tonight with the girls’ game beginning at 6:00 PM.
