Iowa is receiving $110 million from the recent infrastructure legislation passed by the United States Congress, much of which will go towards water infrastructure. Congresswoman Cindy Axne tells KNIA News Iowa is in desperate need of better water systems, including replacing lead pipes that are affecting children.

“We’ve got unsewered communities still in Iowa, with pipes that go directly into the waterways. We’ve found out that recent studies show that three of every four children in Iowa have some form of lead in their blood. We have aging pipes that we need to address with this issue. So this is a health issue for our families, a drinking water issue, and it’s going to help all the facilities that will receive the funding to help bring better water to Iowans.”
