A record five Central College players received All-America distinction as the Associated Press and D3football.com each released their honor teams Friday evening.

Newly recognized Gagliardi Trophy winner Blaine Hawkins heads the list at quarterback. He was a first-team selection on both squads after earlier being tabbed for first team by the American Football Coaches Association.

Wide receiver Tanner Schminke was also a first-team pick on both squads.

On the D3football.com squad, offensive guard Joshua Mayhew was named to the second team while defensive lineman Blade Durbala and defensive end Hunter Maddy were third-team selections. It’s the most Central players ever chosen in one year.

Hawkins, a two-time American Rivers Conference offensive player of the year, set an NCAA all-divisions record with 63 touchdown passes this season. In 13 games, he completed 331 of 468 passes (70.7%) for 4,475 yards and eight interceptions while posting a passing efficiency rating of 192.1. A team co-captain also rushed for 230 yards and five touchdowns on 83 carries.

Schminke is the Division III leader in receiving yards (1,536) and touchdown receptions (19). Both are school records. He had 93 catches, which ranks second in school history. He ranks second in career pass receptions (163) and touchdown receptions (29) and third in career receiving yards (2,491). His 255 receiving yards at Coe Oct. 9 ranks second on the school charts. He was a first-team all-conference honoree.

Mayhew, a team co-captain, was also a first-team all-conference selection after receiving second-team honors in 2019. He was a third-team D3football.com all-region pick in 2019.

Durbala, another team co-captain, was the conference defensive player of the year. He had 45 tackles for the season including 13 solos, 11.0 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks. He also forced a fumble and recovered one. He was a D3football.com All-America first-team pick last spring and a third-team all-region choice in 2019. Durbala is a two-time first-team all-conference selection.

Maddy made 57 tackles with 21 solos, 13 tackles for loss and 9.5 sacks. He broke up three passes, forced one fumble and recovered two.
