Pleasantville’s wrestling squad finished in the top three at the West Central Conference tournament at Ogden, while both of Pleasantville’s basketball squads will end the 2021 calendar year Monday night.
The Trojans’ wrestling squad finished third in the conference tournament with 141 points, placing behind Interstate-35 and Woodward-Granger. Pleasantville also placed a point and a half ahead of fourth-place finisher Ogden. Four Trojans finished second in their respective weight classes Saturday. Kitt Lundy at 138 lbs, Jacob Hiemstra at 152 lbs, Dillen Ammons at 170 lbs, and Trevor Daggett at 195 lbs all finished in the top two in their respective weight classes.
Pleasantville will have one final triangular before the Holiday break, which will be Tuesday at Marion County foe Knoxville.
The Trojans’ girls’ basketball squad will finish the 2021 calendar year at home against non-conference foe Lynnville-Sully. Pleasantville had an up-and-down season to begin the year, currently sitting at 5-4. The Trojans are coming off putting their lowest point total on the scoreboard in their last matchup, losing 40-27 to Des Moines Christian Friday night. Pleasantville will look for their first win against the Hawks, losing their last matchup with a 49-40 defeat. Coach Jeff Cook says that he knows how tough his task will be going up against a well-coached team like Lynnville-Sully.
“I know they’ll be well-coached. They’re going to shoot the ball well, I’m sure. That’s always been Sully’s thing, they get two or three three-point shooters so we will have to identify them early.”
The Trojans’ boys’ basketball squad will end 2021 with a West Central Conference showdown at Woodward Academy. This will be the first time Pleasantville has matched up with the Knights since 2019. The Trojans have won the last three games over Woodward Academy, including sweeping them in 2019. Pleasantville will try to go into the Holiday break with an above-.500 record.
Both matchups will begin at 7:30 PM.
