PCM’s wrestling squad placed a respectable 14th out of 20 teams across Iowa, Illinois, and Missouri in the Fort Madison Invitational, while the boys’ basketball squad will be back in action for a non-conference showdown Monday.
The Mustangs’ wrestling squad finished with 138.5 points, placing ten points ahead of Louisa-Muscatine and 33.5 points behind Burlington. PCM had two wrestlers finish in the top six in their respective weight classes at the tournament. Nate Richards at 170 lbs won his fifth-place matchup over Kolbe Barnes of Keokuk. Wyatt Wheeler at 195 lbs placed sixth, losing his fifth-place match to Isaac Thatcher of Fort Madison.
PCM will be back in action on January 4, 2022 for a triangular at Saydel with Lynnville-Sully.
The Mustangs’ boys’ basketball squad will be back at home and take a break from Heart of Iowa Conference play as they square off with East Marshall in the Mustang showdown. PCM is coming off a thrilling overtime victory over West Marshall Friday night, improving their record to 4-5. PCM has won the last two matchups over East Marshall, including winning 56-47 last season. Coach Fred Lorensen tells KRLS Sports that the biggest strength of East Marshall is their sharpshooting.
“We played them last year and they had some really good shooters. They had one shooter that graduated but they have a few kids that can shoot the ball really well. I think their big kid might have graduated but I’m sure they got somebody to step in his place, so they’ll be really good too. They have a nice program.”
The matchup at PCM High School will begin at 7:30 PM.
