Both Simpson basketball squads finished up their tournaments Thursday afternoon, and just like Day One, it resulted in a split.

The Storm women finished the Loras Holiday Classic with a 2-0 record, ending with a victory over Bethany Lutheran, 89-76. The hot shooting continued for Simpson Thursday as they shot 54.5% from the field. Cassie Nash had another phenomenal game off the bench for the Storm, scoring a team-high 21 points. Cameron Kincaid had 13 points and eight rebounds to pace Simpson and Regan Freland had 14 points and four steals. Simpson now improves to 12-1 on the season.

The Storm men came up empty at the Music City Classic this week, losing their second game of the tournament to Tufts by the final of 78-61. Simpson couldn’t overcome poor shooting and costly turnovers to finish the tournament 0-2. Chris Honz led the way for the Storm, notching a double-double with 15 points and ten rebounds. The leading scorer for Simpson was Jack Hutchinson off the bench, knocking down five three-pointers en route to a 17-point day. The loss drops the Storm to 4-7 on the year.

The Storm men will be back in action Monday for their second matchup of the season against Cornell College, while the women’s next game will be part of a men’s/women’s American Rivers Conference doubleheader Wednesday against Buena Vista.
