A winter storm will impact the region Saturday, bringing snow, wind, and bitter cold to the area for the first time in the 2021-22 season.

Widespread snowfall of at least four inches is expected — the overall track of the systems may make totals climb up to eight inches in some locations. Sustained winds of 15-20 MPH and gusts up to near 30 will reduce visibility and cause minor drifting as well. Travel is expected to be hazardous, especially Saturday afternoon and evening.

Arriving with the potentially heavy snow is the first major round of bitter cold air — wind chills as cold as 10 below zero are possible starting Friday night and all-day Saturday, and values as low as 20 below zero are expected Sunday morning. Frostbite and hypothermia can occur in as little as 30 minutes in those conditions if precautions aren’t taken.
