The Indianola City Council met in regular session Monday for the first meeting of the new year. They heard a request from the Heart of Iowa Regional Transit Agency for funding, as the pandemic has negatively impacted their funding streams.

The council also approved payment to Langman Construction for the Influent Trunk Sewer and Outfall Sewer Project in the amount of $327,624.

They amended noise ordinances, easements and rezoning applications, by allowing a faster process for submission and approval, as well as a chapter change that would place ice cream vendors in the permit process with other food vendors.

The Indianola City Council also held a public hearing about a vacant property 1010 North Jefferson Way, with a zoning change requested for a commercial development. A public hearing was scheduled for February 7th to amend the fiscal year 2022 budget, which will include review of increased hotel/motel tax revenue and bond proceeds, and expenses related to the Phillips Flooring Development Agreement, increased payments to BRAVO/Convention and Visitors Bureau, and the City Manager search process.

They will received and filed the listing of boards and commissions members, and made council member appointments to council committees, and reviewed the process on how selections are made. Further discussion and action will be held at a future meeting.

The council appointed city representation to the Des Moines Metropolitan Planning Organization and Central Iowa Regional Transportation Planning Alliance and a resolution approving membership to the Mid-Iowa Planning Alliance for Community Development.
