pleasantville-3

In the first doubleheader of the 2022 season, Pleasantville’s basketball squads came up empty against Panorama Tuesday, as was broadcast on the KRLS3 stream at kniakrls.com.

The Trojans’ girls were outlasted in the second half against the No. 1 team in Class 2A Panthers, losing 69-39. Pleasantville fought back and forth with Panorama in the first half, but were outscored 42-19 in the second half. The lone bright spot of the night was Adi Adreon tying her season-high and her own school record with six three-pointers, scoring 18 points. Malorie McKinney was second on the team in scoring with 12 points. The loss drops Pleasantville to 6-5 on the season and 2-4 in West Central Conference play.

The Trojans’ boys’ comeback attempt fell short to the Panthers as they dropped their fourth game of the season, 78-71. Pleasantville was able to cut a 16-point deficit down to five with four minutes left, but they couldn’t get over the hump before the game ended. Mason Scheve once again led the way in scoring for Pleasantville, scoring 26 points and knocking down 11 of 17 shots. Andrew Pender was second on the team in scoring, knocking in a season and career-high 24 points while hitting 10 of 18 shots. Coach Tom Wilkins says that despite the valiant effort, his team can’t afford to fall behind by double-digits on a consistent basis.

“We got to quit getting down by 15, 16 points and making these furious comebacks. But that’s a little bit on me, we played 2-3 zone and our 2-3 zone looked really good in practice and we scrimmaged Knoxville and it looked really good. But then, they come ou and make eight of 14 three’s in the first half.

The loss drops Pleasantville to 4-4 on the season and a 3-4 record in West Central Conference play.

Pleasantville will try to get back in the win column with a non-conference doubleheader Thursday night against Colfax-Mingo.
