A pivotal conference clash for the girls basketball teams and a chance to rebound for both boys programs will be highlighted as Norwalk comes to Pella High School for a conference twin bill this evening.
No. 13 in 4A Pella (9-5, 4-4 in LHC) will take on Norwalk (8-6, 4-4 LHC), who dropped from the Top 15 last week, but is coming off of a dominating week with lopsided wins over Carlisle and Pella Christian, while the Dutch were edged in a nail-biter with #5 Indianola Friday.
The rivalry between the two girls teams has been close in recent years — the previous six matchups have had an average margin of victory of 7 points, and the Dutch have won four in a row. The winner of the Warriors-Dutch girls game takes control of 4th place in the conference and could earn themselves a first-round bye and home game in the playoffs, especially if it keeps or places either squad in the rankings.
The nightcap features two boys teams seeking a bounce back — #3 in 3A Pella (10-4, 6-2 in LHC) has dropped two in a row to #5 in 2A Des Moines Christian and #10 in 4A Indianola, and takes on the Norwalk team (6-7, 3-6 in LHC) that upset them back in the first matchup as time expired, while the Warriors want to pick up the pieces after a 15-0 3rd quarter run from the Eagles Friday ran them off of Eagle Lane.
Coverage of Pella vs. Norwalk basketball begins at 5:45 p.m. on 92.1 KRLS, kniakrls.com, and the free KRLS mobile app, as well as the Pella Dutch Live YouTube channel.
