
The Pella Christian Basketball teams got the opportunity to play at Wells Fargo Arena Monday night, but both teams would fall to longtime rival Des Moines Christian. The Eagles girls squad lost 51-41, and the boys team was defeated 57-46.
The trio of Joslyn Terpstra, Faith Kacmarynski, and Karlie Anderson got off to a great start for the Pella Christian girls team, as they scored all 22 points in the first half to give the Eagles a 22-20 advantage at halftime. In the second half, Des Moines Christian went on a run to pull ahead, and Pella Christian struggled to get the offense going as the Lions pulled away for the 10-point victory. Joslyn Terpstra led the Eagles offense with 14 points, while Karlie Anderson and Faith Kacmarynski each contributed 11 points. Pella Christian fell to 2-13 overall on the year with the loss.
In a potential substate final preview, the Pella Christian boys basketball squad got off to a strong start behind Eric Mulder’s 7 first quarter points to grab a 13-11 advantage after a quarter of play. The script would flip for the Eagles in the second quarter, as the Lions would outscore Pella Christian 15-5 to take an eight-point advantage into halftime. The normally balanced offense attack for the Eagles would be held in check, as Des Moines Christian would pull out a 11-point victory. Eagles Head Coach J.D. Boer gave credit to the Lions and said that he felt his team didn’t utilize their strengths in the loss. The loss dropped Pella Christian to 10-4 on the season.
The Eagles have a quick turnaround as they will host Indianola tonight. This will be the second time that the two schools have met this year after Pella Christian was swept at Indianola back on December 10th. The Eagles girls have struggled against the Indians in the Varsity Bound/Quikstats Era, dropping 10 of the 11 matchups since 2016. The Pella Christian boys have fared better against Indianola winning four of the 11 matchups since 2016.
