untitled-4-2

The Pella Christian basketball teams split with Grinnell in a Little Hawkeye Conference doubleheader Friday, as heard live on the KRLS2 Stream at KNIAKRLS.com. The Eagles girls team fell to #6 in Class 4A Grinnell 55-32, and the #6 in Class 2A Pella Christian boys team knocked off the Tigers 75-52.

The Eagles found themselves in a quick 10-0 hole in the girls’ game and weren’t able to dig themselves out of it. Joslyn Terpstra led Pella Christian offensively with 17 points and also pulled down eight rebounds. Eagles Head Coach Brad Engbers says that while overall the offense struggled, he was happy with how his team competed.

“Well obviously they’re a team that gets after you on the defensive end, so they’re going to slow most teams down at least a little bit. They run a good run and jump type of defense, and we struggled against it, but overall actually in general for our girls tonight I was pretty pleased with how we managed that. They are very aggressive, and I thought we did a lot better job tonight of looking up the floor and making those good passes, and yeah we had a few times where we coughed it up, but overall we were pretty pleased.”

For the Eagles boys’ squad, strong performances from Levi Schelhaas and Danny Andringa led to the 23-point victory over the Tigers. Schelhaas scored a Pella Christian season-high 28 points, including scoring the first eight points for the Eagles in the game, and Andringa recorded a season-high 16 points.

The Pella Christian girls fell to 2-14 on the year and 0-10 in conference play with the loss, while the Eagles boys team improved to 12-4 on the season and 7-3 in conference play. The Eagles return to the court Tuesday for another Little Hawkeye Conference doubleheader at Dallas-Center Grimes.
