Iowa Senate Study Bill 3079 or the “Parent’s Bill of Rights” proposes in part that parents or guardians of students have access to what their child is being taught in school. District 14 Republican Iowa State Senator Amy Sinclair tells KNIA/KRLS News that this portion of the bill restricts teachers in how they respond to the immediate needs of students.

“More than an extra workload, it’s also limiting in especially current events. So, absolutely without question the transparency portion needs to be worked on. It absolutely needs to be addressed that the teachers need to respond to the immediate needs of students and the current events that are happening around. I think that’s an important point that teachers are making to me and hopefully to the governor’s office as well as the transparency process goes forward.”

Sinclair is chair of the Senate Education Committee.
