Iowa Senator Joni Ernst visited Simpson College Friday as part of her 99-county tour across the state. Senator Ernst met with faculty and students of Simpson, including Simpson President Marsha Kelliher, and discussed the importance of Liberal Arts Colleges for students and the future. Senator Ernst said it is important to have opportunities for students to decide what is important to them, and what they want to focus on.
“What we want parents to understand as well as those young men and women looking at college opportunities, is they need to find out what is right for them. Is it going right into the workforce, or maybe getting a technical career or degree under their belt, or going to a liberal arts institution and getting that type of degree. It depends on what they want to do, and they should really be following their passions.
President Kelliher said many people don’t understand the full value of a liberal arts college education, which doesn’t just educate you on a single topic, but rather prepares you for a contribution to society.
