Pleasantville’s basketball squads came out of Guthrie Center with a split against ACGC, while the wrestling squad will compete along with Southeast Warren/Melcher-Dallas in Sectional play at Interstate-35.

 

The Trojans’ girls broke their cold streak temporarily, dominating the Chargers 72-38. 42 second-half points and four Trojans hitting double-figures paced the way for Pleasantville. Malorie McKinney had her second straight 20-point game, scoring 20. Joelle Johnson was a key player off the bench for Pleasantville, scoring 19. Rachel Harvey and Adi Adreon tied for third in scoring with ten points. With the win, Pleasantville improves to 11-9 on the season and 6-7 in West Central Conference play.

 

The Trojans’ boys fought hard but came up just short in the nightcap, losing to the Chargers 59-57. Mason Scheve finally cooled off and had the lowest point total in a game since January 21st at Des Moines Christian, scoring just 12. Dayson Leerhoff led the way in scoring for Pleasantville, Scoring 18 points and hauling down seven rebounds. Taylon Mount tied for Scheve in the scoring category with 12 points, but he also chipped in a career-high nine assists. With the loss, Pleasantville drops to 11-8 on the season and 8-6 in West Central Conference play.

 

Both teams will be back in action for their final doubleheader of the season Tuesday night at home against Interstate-35. The doubleheader will be broadcast on the KRLS3 stream at kniakrls.com.

 

The Trojans’ wrestling squad will travel to Interstate-35 High School in Truro for Sectional play. Pleasantville will compete with the host, Martensdale-St. Mary’s, Earlham, Nodaway Valley, Southeast Warren/Melcher-Dallas, Mount Ayr, and Wayne. The Trojans come into sectional play with an 18-5 dual record and four top-three finishes in tournaments. Pleasantville’s last tournament was a seventh-place finish at the Charger Invitational at ACGC last Saturday. This will be the second time in a week that Pleasantville will compete against Earlham, Nodaway Valley and Southeast Warren/Melcher-Dallas. Cole Metz, Anthony Schneider and Kael Caikowski will represent Melcher-Dallas. Metz will wrestle at 160 lbs, Schneider at 145 lbs, and Caikowski will wrestle at 113 lbs.

 

Sectional play at Interstate-35 High School begins at 9:00 AM.
