The Knoxville Basketball Squads spent the afternoon in Wells Fargo Arena and came away with the split with Newton on Saturday with the girls blowing away the Cardinals 63-37 and the boys falling 68-35 heard live on 95.3 KNIA. Both girls squads started slowly with Knoxville leading at the half time break 19-16, but the Panthers erupted for 44 2nd half points keyed by the Dunkin Sisters’ assault from long range, hitting a combined five three point shots and Hannah getting six total for the game.

Emma Dunkin scored 24 points to lead Knoxville in scoring the younger Dunkin hit for 18 points, all on three point shots as the Panthers outscored Newton in the second half 44-21. It was a different situation in the boys game as Newton took Knoxville out of any kind of offense or defense and gained control early in a 68-35 win. Gabe Clarke led the Panthers in scoring with 11 points. The girls are now 10-9 on the season while the boys drop to 5-13. Both squads head to Martensdale-St. Mary’s on Monday.
