The Pella wrestling team is hoping to show the continued growth of the program at the Class 3A District meet in Carlisle today. Dutch Head Coach Jay Pike is hopeful several of their weight classes can contend in a deep field loaded with ranked opponents, including traditional national powerhouse Southeast Polk, conference foe Norwalk, and more.
“Whoever makes it out of this district, will probably make the podium in some way shape or form at state,” Pike says.
Individuals that place in the top two of their respective weight class today will qualify for the 2022 Iowa High School State Wrestling Tournament this coming Thursday the 17th through Saturday the 19th at Wells Fargo Arena.
Among the likely contenders for top two or three seeds in their respective weight classes, and thus, strong paths to potential top two finishes for Pella are two-time Little Hawkeye Conference champion Damion Clark at 120 (27-8 record), Logan Schroeder at 126 (22-15), Conference Champion Peyton Ritzert at 138 (15-1), T.R. Putz at 145 (26-8), Jackson Van Kley at 152 (30-12), Conference Champions Logan Bruxvoort at 160 (31-4) and Kieran Van Voorst at 182 (21-12), and Noah Parsons at 195 (23-8).
