The Knoxville American Legion is continuing to seek donations to replace the flags used for the Avenue of Flags set up five times a year at Graceland Cemetery. Commander of the Knoxville American Legion Curt Froyen tells KNIA/KRLS News the Legion has raised roughly half of the amount needed.
“We’ve been going for about a month now, and we’ve received $6,000 in donations so far. If we were to have to replace all of the flags that we use at Graceland Cemetery all at once, then the cost would be close to $12,000. So, we’re making really good progress, and we feel that the donations we’ve received so far will keep us going for the next couple of years anyway.”
To donate the Knoxville American Legion flag fund, visit the Legion, Marion County Bank in Knoxville, or send a check made out to the American Legion flag fund to P.O. Box 220 in Knoxville. Froyen adds that donations can be made in the names of friends or family who have served, and if so, the Legion will honor their service to our country.
