During policy and planning at this week’s Pella City Council meeting, a presentation will be given about the current status of Pella Community Ambulance, as will an update regarding the review of the Library’s Collection and Development Policy by the Library Board of Trustees.

For Pella Community Ambulance, discussion will be held about the non-profit organization providing emergency medical services for 40 years on behalf of the City of Pella. An increased call volume, coupled with an uptick in the rate of Medicaid or Medicare patients, has generated a lower reimbursement rate versus privately insured patients. The combination of the items has created a financial hardship for the Pella Community Ambulance, and as a non-profit organization as opposed to a government-operated facility, they are not eligible for some grant reimbursement through the State of Iowa. The council will discuss options regarding the future of the service.

According to a staff memo issued to the Pella City Council, a policy committee and appointed elected officials have had a discussion with the Library Board of Trustees regarding the Pella Public Library’s Collection Development Policy, specifically as it relates to access of mature content by minors. An update will be given about the status of those processes, and the Pella City Council will consider if further action is necessary. No formal action will be considered for either matter.

The Pella City Council meeting begins at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Pella Public Safety Complex, and can also be viewed online.
