pleasantville-3

Playoff basketball action for Pleasantville’s girls’ basketball squad begins tonight as the Trojans travel southwest to Leon to take on Central Decatur.

The Trojans come into the postseason with an 11-10 record and a 6-8 record in West Central Conference play. Pleasantville has struggled down the stretch this regular season, losing five of their final seven games. Their two wins have come against Woodward-Granger and ACGC. With the playoffs here, the Trojans’ defense will have a tall task going up against a Cardinals team that is very versatile offensively. Coach Jeff Cook tells KNIA Sports that his squad is going to stay on their toes in order to stop the Cardinals’ offense.

“Central Decatur is a team that is kind of a handful. They are not really big but they want to pass and cut and get a lot of outside shots. I watched them play a couple of times on film and they are going to cut and cut until somebody goes to sleep and they get a layup or somebody doesn’t get out to the three-point shooter.”

The two former conference opponents will meet for the first time since 2018, when Pleasantville moved from the Pride of Iowa to the West Central Conference. Central Decatur has won the last 15 matchups against Pleasantville. The Trojans last beat the Cardinals January 4th, 2011.

The playoff matchup at Central Decatur High School gets underway at 7:00 PM. The game will be broadcast on the KNIA3 stream at kniakrls.com with Alex Koch on the call. Pregame coverage begins at 6:45.
