After defeating Pekin Saturday night in the opening round of the Class 2A regional girls basketball tournament, the Pella Christian girls basketball team will take on #13 in Class 2A Mediapolis tonight.

The Eagles enter the second-round matchup fresh off of a dominant defensive effort against Pekin Saturday night, giving up just 13 points after the first quarter. The Pella Christian defense will face a tougher test in ranked Mediapolis, as they average over 60 points per game compared to Pekin’s 36. Assistant Coach and former Head Coach Kevin Van Maanen will lead the Eagles for the second straight game with Head Coach Brad Engbers sideline with health issues. Van Maanen knows PC faces an uphill battle, but believes if they play up to their potential, that they can shock the Bulldogs.

“Well they’ve got some nice ball players, but it’s nothing like we haven’t seen all year, and I think hopefully our team speed and if we can keep making our shots, I think we can play right with them. ”

Tonight’s game tips off at 7:00 p.m. at Mediapolis High School. Tyler Crabb and Wynne Veenstra will have all the action live on 92.1 KRLS, beginning with pregame coverage at 6:30.
