Democrat Lisa Fleishman of Carlisle has announced her campaign for Iowa Senate in District 11. Fleishman tells KNIA/KRLS News her values include public service, hard-work, and teamwork.

“For me, public service, it’s all in the word. It means you serve the public, that you’re being a good neighbor to them and that you’re more concerned about doing what’s right for your communities than enriching yourself or your friends. Hard work, when you work in a small business, you better roll up your sleeves and get the job done. Teamwork, you know, you can never accomplish anything big without people around you to help you do that. And you know, just posturing a sense of belonging, telling the truth even when it’s hard, even when it’s a truth that people don’t want to hear. That’s the most important time to really get messages out there like that.”

Fleishman may run against Republican State Senator Julian Garrett, who has served in the role for District 13 since 2013. In November, Iowa redrew district maps; the old District 13 included Warren County and the new District 11 includes Warren County in addition to parts of central Marion County including the city of Knoxville. The new districts go into effect for the elections in 2022 for the 118th U.S. Congress and the 90th Iowa General Assembly. Garrett has yet to declare his intention to run.
