Iowa Lawmakers passed legislation to provide a 2.5% increase to per-pupil state aid for Iowa schools. The bill passed through the Senate on Monday and the House on Friday. Iowa District 14 State Senator Amy Sinclair tells KNIA/KRLS News that the percentage increase allows for stable funding for school districts.
“We went out and have been campaigning and talking about tax cuts and reforming our tax system and in order to do that you have to maintain a stable and fundable level of funding for education, and it compounds year over year. And to balance the reformation of the tax code along with maintaining that stable funding, that means you keep a pretty tight budget, and that’s where we came up with that number.”
Sinclair says she is looking forward to the rest of the session and working on a teacher’s recruitment and retention bill.
