The #4 Indianola girls basketball team is advancing to the regional final, but had to mount a comeback in the second half against fairfield Saturday evening as the Indians won 44-40 in a game heard live on 94.3 KNIA.
The game started off on a snail’s pace, as Indianola could not make a shot from outside and lead only 7-5 after the first quarter and trailed by as much as six in the second quarter before trailing just 17-15 at the halftime break. Fairfield continued to play strong defense and hold on throughout the third, building a 29-20 lead before the Indians started a run to reclaim the lead in the fourth.
The Indians went on a 13-3 run to reclaim the lead at 33-32, then hit more big shots and free throws down the stretch to earn the four point win. Head coach Jeff Janssen said the start was not ideal, but he is proud of the way his team did not get down on themselves and came back to get the win after not playing their best.
The Indians improve to 17-4 on the season, and will host Bondurant-Farrar in the regional finals on Tuesday.
