For the third consecutive year, PCM’s boys basketball squad will take on No. 7 in Class 2A Des Moines Christian in a district final matchup.

The Mustangs are coming off winning their first two playoff games convincingly. PCM started off their playoff run with a dominating victory over Chariton last Monday. The Mustangs followed that performance up with a win over Pleasantville Thursday night at Des Moines Christian. PCM will now be in Carlisle for their district final matchup against the Lions.

This is the second consecutive year that the two teams will square off in a district final and the third straight year the two teams have met in the postseason. PCM has yet to beat Des Moines Christian in the Varsity Bound era, losing all four matchups between the two squads. PCM lost to Des Moines Christian last year in the district final at Pleasantville, 59-43. The winner of this matchup will take on the winner between Pella Christian and Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont Saturday night. Coach Fred Lorenson tells KRLS Sports that he knows what is at stake in this matchup.

“Well, survive and move on. It doesn’t matter how you play, just get the win and move on to the next game. The next game you play is even more and more challenging.”

The district final showdown at Carlisle gets underway tonight at 7:00 PM. Pre-game coverage begins at 6:45 PM and will be broadcast on the KRLS3 stream at kniakrls.com with Alex Koch on the call.
